History of Burke family written by Waterfordman

Jimmy Burke from Waterford has written a book on the “History and Genealogy of De Burgh - De Búrca - Burke” which is now available in bookshops throughout Waterford.
Jimmy who hails from a prominent Waterford family started the book in 2001 and spends all his time researching and chronicling the times and exploits of his family tree.
Retired from Snowcream Dairies where he worked for 27 years he is married to the former Kathleen Phelan, Lower Newtown, Waterford and they have three children, Vivian, Yvonne and Jim. He also has three brothers, Frankie, Cork; Noel, London; Sean, Tramore; and one sister, Anne, Australia. His elder brother Frankie is a retired member of the Garda Siochana in Cork and was a founder member of the Cork Garda Credit Union which he managed for many years.
He is son of the late Jimmy and Maggie Burke, originally from Roanmore Terrace and later on in Roanmore Park. His father worked as an Overseer with Waterford City Council and was for many years the caretaker of Walsh Park and would have been known to generations of Waterford GAA fans.
Jimmy has fond memories of growing up on the ‘High Path’ as Roanmore Terrace was colloquially known at the time. He decided to research the family tree and was soon bitten by the research and writing bug. He laughs as he recollects his wife saying to friends, “He works eight days a week on that book.”
A past pupil of Mount Sion primary and secondary schools Jimmy is understandably proud of his roots and he hopes the publication of his book will allow the name of Burke to live on in the history of Waterford and environs.
